Microleasing – Mobilising Capital, Expanding Rural Impact

The Microleasing Fund continues to demonstrate how targeted investments in local financial institutions can mobilise additional capital and expand access to productive assets for farmers and rural enterprises across East Africa.

Our cumulative impact results as of September 2026 highlight the growing reach of the Microleasing model.

Capital Mobilisation

Initial Fund investments of USD 518,369 have enabled financial partners to mobilise an additional USD 3.36 million, financing productive assets valued at USD 3.77 million.

For every USD 1 initially invested by the Microleasing Fund, an additional USD 6.48 in lending activity was generated through our financial partners – including partner capital, repayments, relending and other financing sources.

Productive Assets and Rural Livelihoods

  • 20,721 productive assets financed through 4,574 microleases.
  • 22,870 people benefiting from productive asset financing.
  • 63.8% of individually leased assets acquired by women.
  • USD 10.77 million in potential income increase over the next three years.

Climate-Smart Agriculture

Our financial partners have financed 2,686 climate-smart assets, including solar and biogas assets, supporting more sustainable agricultural production.

Climate-smart assets now represent 27.4% of the total value of productive assets financed.

Growing Demand

The Fund’s investment pipeline has doubled since 2023, reaching USD 47.7 million across 96 financial institutions in East Africa.

These results reinforce the potential of Microleasing to strengthen local financial institutions, mobilise capital and improve rural livelihoods.

Small investments can generate significant development impact when capital is mobilised and reinvested through local financial institutions.
